Hal Danziger leads the Product team for Condé Nast’s Technology group, overseeing Condé’s digital products.

Prior to joining Condé, Hal was the Chief Technology Officer at New York Media, publisher of New York Magazine, nymag.com, and MenuPages.com.  He was responsible for software development processes, best practices, project management, software architecture and infrastructure.  Danziger introduced the scrum framework to the software delivery team at New York, which was a driving factor in drastically increasing the number of quality product enhancements rolled out since April of 2009.

While Hal has with the team, New York released four mobile apps: menupages for iPhone, New York Magazine for Android, New York Mag for iPad, and The Cut on the Runway for iPad. Additionally, the team won numerous awards, including ASME’s Digital Ellie for General Excellence in both 2009 and 2010, the top National Magazine Award for digital media.  New York also won Ad Age Media Vanguard Awards for Best Magazine Website for nymag.com, and Best Consumer Service iPhone App for menupages.com.

Hal had previously served as VP of Product Management for the CBS Television Stations Digital Media Group, where he was responsible for the product roadmap for the 29 CBS owned and operated television stations’ web sites, including WCBS in New York and KCBS in Los Angeles (see full list at http://cbslocal.com).   Danziger’s expertise in the areas of video, ad delivery and social media helped to drive products that aggregate the efforts of all divisions of the organization, including sales, editorial, marketing, technology and user experience.  He also directed project management practices, leading cross-functional teams to implement and build the products as defined by product managers.

Danziger had been the Director of Development for the organization.  He led the development of all digital products that support the owned CBS stations.  He also managed integrations between CBS and its technology partners, which included Yahoo, Google, DoubleClick, Endeca, Entriq, and Match.com, among dozens of other technology and media companies. His primary responsibility was to architect CBSTV’s new content management system, web sites, and infrastructure.  This architecture has supported over 1 billion page views annually, and over 1 million page views in an hour.  His hands-on software development expertise was instrumental in his accomplishments in this role.

Danziger performed a similar role during his employment at Cablevision Systems Corp. While at Cablevision, Danziger architected a home grown digital asset management system (DAM), adding features such as integration of digital rights management and automatic ingestion of digital assets and metadata from third parties via satellite, including video on demand (VOD) programs from HBO and Showtime.

He has also served for a number of digital media companies in roles ranging from Director of Development to CTO.  Danziger acted as the chief architect for solutions provided to clients including Cablevision, Computer Associates, PRNewswire, British Airways, Nortel Networks and Getty Petroleum. The applications he architected included content management systems, CRM integrations, and e-commerce sites and applications.

Danziger is an alumnus of Stony Brook University, with a B.S. in Computer Science, and expects to complete his executive M.S in Technology Management in 2012.  His greatest strengths are in the areas of product development, business analysis, content management, digital asset management, relational databases and applications integration.  He is a member of the Online Publisher’s Association Tech Committee, and previous served on the IAB committees for Digital Video and User Generated Content (UGC), and Social Media.
