Seriously, as you said, blogging isn't about being an expert, but rather contributing what expertise you have to the community, and catalyzing conversations that themselves create value. My only caveat is that it helps to have a critical mass of participants in that conversation, and the potential participants are scattered over the gazillions of forums out there.
